On January 12, 2017 the Carolina Waterman, Inc. (a non-profit organization) was formed with the signatures of Trent Ventura and Meghan Douty. These two passionate individuals devote their full time efforts towards improving the community's knowledge of their local waters, their right to access our public waters, and the variety of ways to safely enjoy those public waters.
Trent and Meghan are currently the only two employees of the Carolina Waterman, Inc. They share the title of Founder and Director and together they are laying the foundation for the future of this organization. From website design to program development, from accounting and taxes to surf and paddleboard instruction... these two individuals are the Carolina Waterman.
"Our goal isn't to get rich doing this, if that were the case we would have remained a for profit company, nor is this intended to be our lifelong employment. Our goal is to train the local youth in our community, through our free Jr. Waterman program, to one day step into the leadership positions in the organization." ~ Trent & Meghan

"In 2007 I joined the United States Coast Guard Reserves as a Boatswain's Mate. I spent two years drilling in Camp Lejeune following Basic Training and Boatswain's Mate "A" School. In the summer of 2009 I moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and worked as a Surf Instructor. That fall I packed my things, submitted a transfer request, and moved by myself to the island of Oahu, Hawaii. I started working for Surf Technicians, LLC. in Honolulu that fall and spent the next few years working in the 5,000 board warehouse of the World's largest surf and paddleboard manufacturers. In August of 2010 I deployed with the Coast Guard in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill where I spent the next 6 months. After returning to Hawaii I resumed my job with SurfTech and started school full time. In 2012 I moved back to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and opened the Carolina Paddle Company. This was Myrtle Beach's first paddleboard focused operation and from the beginning was aimed at educational guided paddleboard lessons. My enlistment with the Coast Guard was over in August of 2014, I purchased a 32' catamaran sailboat and sailed from Tampa Bay, Florida to Myrtle Beach. Immediately following that trip I was commissioned to captain another 32' catamaran sailboat from Annapolis, Maryland to Myrtle Beach. Afterwards I then sailed my vessel back to Melbourne, Florida and spent two winters on board. In April of 2016 I drove home to Myrtle Beach, leaving the boat docked in Melbourne, and resumed paddleboard lessons that summer. I met Meghan in the fall of 2016 and the course of the Carolina Paddle Company was forever changed... As a non-profit organization the Carolina Waterman, Inc. is now dedicated to serving our community. We are here to stay." ~ Trent

I graduated from the University of Missouri - St. Louis in 2014 with my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, focusing on Management. Upon graduation I packed my bags and set off for a 30 day tour of Europe with my sister. Once I returned home to Missouri it didn't take me long to shake of the jet lag and pack my car for another adventure. With my best friend Hazel (she's a pit bull) and an old friend we hit the road, seeking those California Sunsets. After almost 4 months experiencing the West Coast environment, and swimming in that cold Pacific water, I moved to Myrtle Beach. It was 2015 and I needed to spend some valuable time with my grandparents. It was just a year later that my brother and his future wife came to visit the family in Myrtle Beach that we decided to go for a Paddleboard Lesson with the (then) Carolina Paddle Company, LLC. This is when I met Trent and my life was flipped upside down! We started spending a lot of time together, paddling the Waccamaw, exploring the Grand Strand, surfing, and learning truly how precious our local natural resources are to this community. At the end of 2016, Trent & I joined forces, closed the business, and reopened it together as the Carolina Waterman, Inc. We spent 2017 laying the foundation for the organization on a completely volunteer basis, preparing for our 2018 season and the start of our 1st Free Program for our local youth! I am eager to continue learning about our community and doing my part to help teach today's youth about their local natural environment, and how to safely enjoy that environment!
